Carl Sandburg had wide interests and was a prolific writer of both poetry and prose.  This collection of readings covers this range of his work, including humor, anti-war & anti-gun statements, thoughtful pieces about human nature, vaudevillian dialogs, and excerpts from his famous biography of Abraham Lincoln.  Many of Sandburg’s poetry lines are so often quoted that they seem like “common knowledge,” such as this phrase: “Someday they’ll give a war, and no one will come.”  This theatrical presentation blends humor and serious subjects, giving at the same time an understanding of this Pulitzer Prize winning writer.  Performances will be held on the NSC stage at the Senior Center, 1651 Jefferson Pkwy.  Tickets may be purchased at the Senior Center Front Desk, or at the door ahead of each performance.

Readers include Bob Bruce, Sharon Gates-Hull, Joy Ganyo, Patsy Dew, Claire Erickson and Elizabeth Olson.  Myrna Johnson will be singing songs from Carl Sandburg’s Songbag, accompanied by Gary Lewis on guitar.
