Melodrama Performances this Saturday and Sunday

By October 10, 2013News

The Encore Players present our 4th Annual melodrama, The Treasure of Shiver River, on Saturday, Oct 12 at 7pm and Sunday, Oct 13 at 2pm.   Desert will be served following each performance.  Tickets are $15 adults, $5 children.  Ticket price includes desert.nsc ad oct 13-1

The play will be presented in true melodramatic style, with piano underscoring provided by Theo Wee, and special Oleo music by vocalists Myrna Johnson and Ruth Legvold.  The Treasure of Shiver River follows a clever script, peppered with puns (all of the characters’ names are puns: eg., Rusty Nail, Heidi Claire Sanders, Lotta Luck), and amusing antics.  There is, of course, a villain in the cast, “Rod Enreel,” played by Jim Haas, who has (at least) three love interests: “Paige Turner,” played by Peggy Sheldon, “Dr. Ophelia Payne,” played by Marie Gery, and “Heidi Claire,” played by Rhoda Van Tassel.   The True Hero, “Marshal Marshall Law,” portrayed by Dan Van Tassel, struggles throughout the play to gain the hand of his True Love, Heidi Claire.  The villain is also aiming to get Heidi to marry him, so he can have control of the ranch where a treasure is buried.  Who will win?  Come to find out!  Other members of the cast are Ken Lee, Marsha Jacobs, Elizabeth Olson, Doug Kriesel, Sharon Stoeck and Lynne Pederson.

Tickets are on sale at the Senior Center’s Front Desk, and by phone (664-3700) or on this website.  Click on these links to purchase tickets for adults* on-line: SATURDAY TICKETS or SUNDAY TICKETS.   The play is a fundraiser for the Center, and is sponsored by Richard J.
